as usual let’s look at how we did last week. Overall we lost 0.5 points. Our cumulative profit for 2021 now stands at 60.041 points. Rafa Cabrero Bello landed the in play bet, winning in Spain in a play off at the first extra hole. He beat his countryman Adri Arnaus with a birdie at the first play off hole to take his national title. A double bogey at the first hole derailed him for a number of holes on Sunday, but Rafa pulled it together to beat off a terrific challenge from Arnaus.
There were three golfers two stokes back in third place, the fast finishing Grant Forrest, Shubanker Sharma and Julien Guerrier of France. Our inital 80/1 selection Adrian Meronk started the final round with three birdies to move up in to the places, but lost his way after that and finished in a tie for twentieth place. Jon Rahm, the short odds favourite here, opened with a 63 but could not get much else going for the rest of the week. Rahmbo finished in a tie for seventeenth place.
Over in Las Vegas Sungjae Im found his best game on Sunday and carded a 62 to win by four strokes. Im is inconsistent but is a top player on his day, which was Sunday. The runner up spot was taken by Matthew Woolf, who lost in a play off the previous time the tournament was played . Another inconsistent golfer who likes this course.
Martin Laird was one of our initial selections. Unfortunately he bogeyed the final hole and missed out on a part place by one stroke! Nick Watney failed to deliver and finished tied fifty sixth. Late substitute pick Webb Simpson was poor and missed the cut. He does look one to swerve until we see more life in his game.
Now onto this coming week.
We stay in Spain on the European Tour and in Las Vegas on The USPGA Tour.
Information on both tournaments and who our initial selections will be are detailed below.
Good luck Martin
