we made a profit of 43.4 points last week and our cumulative 2021 profit to date is 77.44 points.
Billy Horschel got it done for us on Sunday. We were on at 28/1 for 1.5 points each way. By birdying the final hole and carding a final round 65, Billy got it done by one stoke, finishing nineteen under par. My initial guess of a winning score of twenty under par was not far off.
One stroke behind Billy were Kiradech Aphibarnrat, Laurie Canter and Jamie Donaldson. Aphibarnrat, fresh from qualifying back on to the main USPGA tour seemed revitalised apart from on Saturday, when he carded a 74 to dent his score. But he did card 64’s in rounds one and four. One stroke behind those guys was Christaan Bezuidenhout and then a group on sixteen under par, including Justin Rose.
Viktor Hovland struggled all week and just about made the top fifty finishers. Bernd Wiesberger was ordinary on Sunday carding a 72, struggling with the putter all week. But it was enough to get him in to Team Europe on a points accrued basis. This likely cost Justin Rose a place as a pick.
This week we are off to the Netherlands on the European Tour and Napa, California on the USPGA Tour, where season 2021-22 begins.
Initial selections are detailed below.
Good luck Martin
